This book is about 60 pages long, an easy read and a good book for those players new to the game with Attention Deficit Disorder. Only about 11 pages are strategy and the rest explains hand ranking, live play ettiquite, position, blah, blah, blah... I was done with the book in 20 minutes since I could skip 49 pages. 5 pages on hand rankings? I would love to sit down at a table with Mr. Cardoza if this is all he knows.
The strategy section does have some good points for those that have little idea about what hands should be played and how, but it is very basic. If I didn't have a section on strategy on this site that gave you more information than this book has, I would recommend it for the brand spankin' new player, since it is so short and simple to understand. The title is partially correct, "The Basics". As far as the "of Winning Hold'em Poker" goes, it will help get a player off the ground floor, but there is much more than what can be explained in this short book. Harrington on Hold'em has 376 pages and Dan didn't feel he covered it all so he wrote 2 more about as long. Is all I'm sayin...
Well, Avery, I can only give your book a 2 out of 10 hearts ranking. The front of the book says, "One quick reading shows you how to win!" I'm not sure it could be read any other way or if more than one reading is even necessary. But, really myself and others are not interested in winning, we are interested in winning consistently. At $4.95 I spent to much. If the book were a poker hand, I would call it a poorly bet bluff.
